A bit about me
after over 30 years in design…
…my energy and enthusiasm still exists! I love design – I am always researching and keeping tabs on current trends and the ever growing changes technology brings to design.
After 5 years studying Graphic Design I entered my first role as a designer at The Yorkshire Evening Press in York in the editorial department, which then led me onto The Yorkshire Evening Post in Leeds, where I continued to develop a passion for magazine design and typography. I then worked for Vivid Creative (now a very successful agency in Sheffield) as they were starting out in their business in Leeds on all things outdoors! Eventually I ventured into freelance as I thought it would be the best way to get a taster of different places and how different people work in the design industry. It proved to be just that – what a great experience! I ended up working all over the city of Leeds, sampling such well known places as Elmwood, propaganda, Watt Gilchrist, Gratterpalm and Tiger Print to name a few, which then led me to the role of In-house Design Manager at Astracast and then Jacuzzi UK where I stayed for 7 years, there I have to admit I became slightly infatuated with sinks and baths! For 6 years I was a part of the creative thinking at The Lenny Agency and I am now (for the past 4 years) at Mint in Rawdon and loving it as we have such a mix of clients, law firms, healthcare, universities – there is never a dull moment. My strengths and passions are branding, brochures and typography, I love getting stuck into a multiple page document with loads of text and images, give me a Annual Report or a Prospectus any day!
Looking back over my career so far I feel I have had a quite a diverse path of working in the graphic design industry, covering; editorial to creative marketing, brochures, leaflets, POS, advertising, exhibitions, digital, branding, proof reading, photographic retouching, photography art direction and web design, managing design work from brief through to completion and creating work for many high profile clients such as, University of Leeds, OXO Good Grips, Braun, Jacuzzi UK, Berghaus, North Face, Lowe Alpine, RAB, B&Q, St Thomas’ Hospital, Birmingham University, World Heart Federation, Fenwick Elliot and Boult Wade Tennant.
I feel I have developed into a strong, confident, creative designer and a good team player who can adapt and diversify in most areas of design and give good creative support to others.
